Wheel Choice
A wheel up the sideline with a choice route behind it gives your QB a deep shot and a smart answer in one picture. Tell your players: 'Wheel stretches them, choice reads them.'
How to run it
- 1
WR3: sneak out flat, then turn it up the sideline — your wheel and WR2's choice share one zone, so time it: you climb first, she breaks second.
- 2
WR2: push to eight and break away from leverage — if your defender sinks under the wheel, snap inside into the grass she left.
- 3
QB: wheel first while the coverage sorts out the two routes; if it's capped, WR2's choice is breaking open underneath the confusion.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Y
- 2. Z
- 3. C
The wheel is first because it's the vertical threat that forces the outside coverage to commit — the choice route then breaks wherever the coverage tilted.
The concepts in this play
- Wheel
- A receiver runs to the flat, then turns and sprints upfield along the sideline — it beats defenders who jump the short throw.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
