5v5 flag football play
Screen Wheel
Fake the screen your opponent has seen on film, then throw the wheel over the defender who jumped it. Tell your players: 'The pump is for one defender — the flat girl. Watch her bite, then it's gone.'
How to run it
- 1
QB: give the screen fake life — a real pump to WR2 with your feet set, because her defender is the one who must jump it.
- 2
WR3: release flat behind the screen action, then turn it up the sideline — stay on the numbers so the QB has room to drop it in.
- 3
WR2: after the fake, sit and show your hands like the ball is coming — you're the outlet if the wheel is capped, never a blocker.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Y
- 2. Z
- 3. C
The wheel is first because the screen fake pulls the flat defender forward, and WR3's wheel climbs right through the space that defender just left.
The concepts in this play
- Screens
- The QB throws behind the line to a receiver with blockers already in front — it turns a pass rush into open running room.
- Wheel
- A receiver runs to the flat, then turns and sprints upfield along the sideline — it beats defenders who jump the short throw.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
