5v5 flag football play
Bubble Screen
This gets the ball to your quickest player in space before the defense can react, and it punishes teams that align soft on the slot. Tell your players: 'Catch it behind the line, then race the nearest flag-puller to the sideline.'
How to run it
- 1
Snap it and throw it in one motion — the ball should be in WR3's hands before the defense takes its first step.
- 2
WR3: drift back and toward the sideline as the ball comes — catch it behind the line, then plant and get vertical.
- 3
WR2 and C: sprint your routes at full speed every time — you are not blockers; your routes emptying the flat IS the screen, and standing near the runner is an illegal pick.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Y
A bubble is a pre-determined throw — the ball comes out at the snap to WR3, so there is no second read to get to.
The concepts in this play
- Screens
- The QB throws behind the line to a receiver with blockers already in front — it turns a pass rush into open running room.
Who should run it
Beginner. New teams and younger players (roughly grades 3–5). Teachable in a single practice.
