5v5 flag football play
Reverse Pass
The reverse gets every defender chasing sideways, then WR3 pulls up and throws over them. Tell your players: 'WR3 — feet set, stay behind the line, and take the run if the deep ball isn't clean.'
How to run it
- 1
WR3: take the toss going left, but stay two yards behind the line — step over it and the downfield throw is illegal.
- 2
Set your feet before you throw — a reverse pass thrown off-balance is a gift; if nobody's open, just tuck it and run.
- 3
WR1: start your cross lazy, then break deep when the reverse shows — your defender will have her eyes in the backfield.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. X
- 2. Z
WR1's deep cross is first because the reverse action pulls the whole defense toward the line, and she breaks behind them into the open middle of the field.
The concepts in this play
- Trick play
- A designed surprise — a double pass or flea-flicker. High reward, but call it once, at the right moment, not as a staple.
- Reverse
- The ball is handed against the grain so it ends up on the opposite side of the flow, away from where the defense flowed.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
