5v5 flag football play
Double Pass
The defense flies to the first catch, and your receiver throws it over their heads. Tell your players: 'WR1, catch it behind the line and look deep before anything else — the post will be there.'
How to run it
- 1
The first pass to WR1 must be backward — WR1 sets up behind the QB's release point so the second throw downfield is legal.
- 2
WR1: catch it, plant, and look deep immediately — WR2's post comes open the moment the defense flies toward your catch.
- 3
If nothing is open deep, WR1 tucks it and runs — never force the second throw into coverage.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Z
- 2. Y
WR2's deep post is first because the defense sprints toward WR1's catch, leaving the deep middle empty behind them.
The concepts in this play
- Trick play
- A designed surprise — a double pass or flea-flicker. High reward, but call it once, at the right moment, not as a staple.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
