5v5 flag football play
Flea Flicker
The sweep fake makes every defender step forward, then the ball comes back to the QB for a shot over their heads. Tell your players: 'The pitch is a soft two-hand toss — this play dies on a wild pitch, not on the throw.'
How to run it
- 1
WR3 takes the handoff flat and fast like a real sweep — the pitch back to the QB is a soft two-handed underhand toss before she reaches the far hash.
- 2
WR1 and WR2: release lazy for two steps like it's a running play, then sprint — the burst after the defense relaxes is the whole trick.
- 3
QB: catch the pitch, set your feet, and only take the deep post if it's behind the defense — the checkdown to C is always there.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Z
- 2. X
- 3. C
The deep post is first because the sweep fake pulls every defender's eyes and feet toward the line, leaving the middle of the field uncovered behind them.
The concepts in this play
- Trick play
- A designed surprise — a double pass or flea-flicker. High reward, but call it once, at the right moment, not as a staple.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
