5v5 flag football play
Sluggo Switch
A double move on one side while switched verticals freeze the deep help on the other — a true shot play. Tell your players: 'Sell the slant like it's the whole play, because to your defender it is.'
How to run it
- 1
WR1: three-step slant, sell it with your eyes, then go — the sluggo is the shot this play is built for.
- 2
WR2 and WR3: switch lanes at the snap and climb — your crossed releases hold the deep help in the middle so she can't get over the top of the sluggo.
- 3
QB: pump the slant, then ride the go up the left sideline; if the deep defender never bites, WR2's seam behind the switch is your second window.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. X
- 2. Z
- 3. C
The sluggo is first because everything else is window dressing — the switch verticals pin the deep help so WR1's defender is alone against the double move.
The concepts in this play
- Double move
- Fake one route and run another — a hitch-and-go, a sluggo. Saved for a defender who's started jumping the first move.
- Downfield
- A vertical route that stretches the defense deep. Even when it isn't the throw, it clears space for everything underneath.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
