5v5 flag football play
Sluggo Left
You beat teams with the slant all game, then the same three steps turn into a go route behind the defender who finally jumped it. Tell your players: 'The slant sells the sluggo — no head snap, no touchdown.'
How to run it
- 1
WR1: run the slant for three honest steps — head snap, eyes to the QB like the ball is coming — then plant and go vertical.
- 2
QB: one small pump on the slant, one hitch, then put air under it up the left sideline — throw her open, away from the trailing defender.
- 3
WR3: settle your cross at nine yards over the middle — you're the answer when the defense plays soft and never bites on the slant.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. X
- 2. Y
- 3. C
The sluggo is first because the play is a timed shot: the pump happens on the slant's third step, and the QB must be looking there to fit the throw as the defender bites.
The concepts in this play
- Double move
- Fake one route and run another — a hitch-and-go, a sluggo. Saved for a defender who's started jumping the first move.
- Downfield
- A vertical route that stretches the defense deep. Even when it isn't the throw, it clears space for everything underneath.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
