5v5 flag football play
Mesh Sit
This is your easy button versus zone: the center sits in the soft middle while two crossers stress the edges of it. Tell your players: 'Zone — sit down in the window; man — run away from your girl.'
How to run it
- 1
C: settle right over the ball at five yards and show the QB your numbers — against zone you're open before anyone else.
- 2
Crossers: if a defender runs with you, keep running — man coverage never gets to rest; if it's zone, throttle down in the first open window.
- 3
QB: this is a calm play — catch, look at C, and if a defender squeezes her, one of the crossers is scraping open right behind.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. C
- 2. Y
- 3. X
C sitting over the ball is first because against zone she is open at the snap for an easy five yards — the crossers are the answer only when defenders chase.
The concepts in this play
- Mesh
- Two receivers cross shallow underneath, brushing close so their defenders collide — the traffic springs whoever comes out the other side.
- Quick game
- Three-step routes thrown on rhythm. The ball is out of the QB's hand before the rush can arrive — great for a young line.
Who should run it
Beginner. New teams and younger players (roughly grades 3–5). Teachable in a single practice.
