Mesh Pivot
Two crossers scrape past each other mid-field so chasing defenders crash into traffic, while the pivot route punishes anyone who switches. Tell your players: 'Cross close, keep moving — the rub does the work.'
How to run it
- 1
WR1 crosses high at six, WR2 crosses low at four — pass close enough to brush shoulders, but keep running; stopping in the pile is an illegal pick.
- 2
WR3: jab hard inside like you're joining the mesh, then pivot back out to the flat — your defender will chase the fake.
- 3
QB: watch the mesh, not one girl — whichever crosser bursts out of the traffic with her defender trailing gets the ball.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Z
- 2. Y
- 3. X
WR2 is first because she comes off the rub — if her defender collides with the mesh traffic even for a step, she's open immediately on the run.
The concepts in this play
- Mesh
- Two receivers cross shallow underneath, brushing close so their defenders collide — the traffic springs whoever comes out the other side.
- Crossers
- Receivers running all the way across the field from opposite sides. Hard for a defender to chase in man coverage, easy for the QB to find on the move.
Who should run it
Developing. Teams with a season together, or middle-school age. A couple of reps to lock the spacing in.
