5v5 flag football play
Slant Flat
The classic two-on-one: flat route stretches wide, slant cuts in behind it. Tell your players: 'QB, you're reading one girl — her first two steps tell you where to throw.'
How to run it
- 1
WR1 slants in as C sprints to the flat underneath — one defender has to choose, and the QB throws to the one she doesn't.
- 2
C: get width fast and look for the ball immediately — the flat throw comes out hot on your second step.
- 3
QB: eyes on the flat defender — if she chases C, the slant window opens right behind her helmet.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. X
- 2. C
- 3. Z
The slant is first because it's the bigger gain, and the flat route's whole job is to pull away the one defender who could cover it.
The concepts in this play
- Slants
- Quick routes breaking inside at a 45° angle. The fastest way to move the ball and the best answer to a hard rush.
Who should run it
Beginner. New teams and younger players (roughly grades 3–5). Teachable in a single practice.
